Why Cedarvault

What sets this studio apart.

Specific advantages of working with Cedarvault — for households who want to understand the difference before they commit to anything.

Core Advantages

Six reasons households choose Cedarvault

Archival background, not just common sense

Our approach draws from records management principles — naming conventions, index structure, and archival material selection — applied thoughtfully to household contexts.

A printed index you actually keep

Every service produces a physical reference — not a dashboard or an app. You can use it when the power is out and find what you need without a login.

The household leads every decision

We do not impose a filing system. We ask questions, understand how the household thinks about its documents, and build around that — not around a template.

Paper and digital treated equally

Most households hold records in both forms. We are one of the few services in Kuching that builds a combined catalog spanning both kinds of document without treating one as secondary.

No credentials, no copies, no digital traces

We do not photograph documents, request login access, or take anything outside the session. The household's information stays with the household.

Follow-up built into every service

We return — whether as a note one month later or a quarterly visit — to check that the system is holding and to answer questions that arise after the initial work.

Expertise

Records management knowledge applied to households

Daniel Lau, who leads each project, spent eight years in a records management role within a Sarawak state body before founding Cedarvault. That background informs every session — from how documents are categorised to which archival materials hold up in the Malaysian climate.

This is not a decluttering service that happens to touch documents. It is a cataloging service grounded in professional practice, applied at household scale.

Professional archival naming and indexing conventions

Climate-appropriate material selection for Sarawak conditions

Experience with both institutional and personal document structures

Digital folder architecture built to be navigable without technical knowledge

Backup routines designed for the household's actual devices

Naming conventions the household can maintain independently

Digital Approach

A folder system designed for people, not IT departments

Most digital folder advice assumes the user has technical confidence. Ours does not. We design folder structures and naming conventions with the assumption that the household will use them independently — on their own devices, in their own time, without needing to refer back to us to understand what they built.

The goal is a structure simple enough to be maintained and clear enough that anyone in the household can navigate it.

Service Quality

A studio, not a platform — and that is the point

We are a small team working closely with a small number of households at any one time. That means the person you speak with at enquiry is the same person who arrives at your door for the session.

There is no hand-off, no call centre, no support ticket. If something about the system needs adjusting after the initial work, you reach us directly.

Direct contact — no intermediaries at any stage

Responses within one working day

Follow-up built into each service tier

Three service tiers at clearly stated prices — RM 530, RM 1,460, RM 2,760

Materials included in relevant service tiers — no hidden extras

No obligation to commit beyond the initial enquiry

Pricing

Stated prices with nothing hidden

All three services are priced clearly. The fees cover the session time, materials where applicable, and the follow-up contact included in each tier. There are no additional charges for archival materials in the services that include them.

The aim is to give households enough information to make a straightforward decision — without needing a consultation just to find out what something costs.

What Makes Us Different

The things Cedarvault does that others do not

A written index the household can read

The printed index we produce is written in plain language — not in a format designed to make the household dependent on returning to us to interpret it.

Home or studio — no extra charge

Sessions for multi-session services can be held at the household's home or at our Jalan Padungan studio, at the household's preference and without a location surcharge.

Yearlong continuity with the subscription

The Annual Records Care Subscription is the only service in its category locally that includes four quarterly visits and a printed annual index within a single fixed fee.

Built for the Malaysian context

Our materials, our indexing language, and our understanding of typical household document types reflect the Sarawak context — land documents, school certificates, insurance papers, and others common to Malaysian households.
